Bangor - North Wales.
St Deiniol first founded a Church in Bangor in the 6th century, and until the 11th century not much else is known of the areas history. Bangor - in North Wales - is now known as the city of learning (Dinas Addysg) because of the fine old university there. Students from all over the world have studied within its' walls, and indeed continue to do so. There are for this reason, lots of student accommodations available in the area. The area of Bangor is separated from the island of Anglesey by the Menai Straits, and therefore both Menai Bridges has half of their foundations on the Bangor side. The prosperity of Bangor and Anglesey is inextricably linked to a lesser or greater degree.
Bangor Cathedral stands in the centre of the city, and is a fine old building. Currently undergoing restoration, so I will take some more photographs when the work is complete. One of the most unusual War Memorials that I have ever seen is to found in Bangor Cathedral, and it records the sons of the clergymen of Bangor Diocese that had lost their lives in the two great wars. The town clock was presented to the city by an ex Mayor of Bangor in 1886/7.
