Moelfre Lifeboat History on Anglesey in North
Wales.

A superb photo of the wonderful bronze statue of Dic Evans again
keeping a vigil over the Sea. The Memorial is angled with Dic
looking out to sea with the Moelfre lifeboat station to
his left.
A stunning six foot bronze statue of Dic Evans,
famous as the one time coxswain of the Moelfre Lifeboat was unveiled
on November
23rd 2004. The statue was sculpted by Sam
Holland.
Dic Evans was one
of the few to win the R.N.L.I. Gold Medal twice. The statue will
take
your
breath
away,
and
this
may
be because the sculptor - Sam Holland - would have put so much
in to it, as her grandfather served on the Moelfre Lifeboat
with Dic Evans.
The £40,000 cost of the statue was raised by appeal, and
was helped in no small way by the local artist, the late Sir
Kyffin Williams, who raised £20,000 via an arts sale.
Moelfre
lifeboat station was first opened in 1830, and has had a remarkable
history of bravery. Its crews have been awarded
no less than 37 medals, four of which were gold - the V.C.
of the lifeboat institution. The other 2 gold medals were awarded
to: Captain Owen Jones - volunteer lifeboatman, and William
Roberts
- second coxswain.
