Rhondda Valleys, Penygraig Football Team 1889-90
One researcher (Denise) is trying to get a better copy of the above
photograph (or indeed any photos of the team), which includes Gwilym
Llewellyn,
her great grandfather, who lived in Penygraig until he died in 1937.
Gwilym's wife Daisy lived until 1953. The image was taken by
Forest Photo of Pontypridd.
If
you have
a better image of this team then Denise would be delighted if you would
email me a high resolution copy here.

Glamorgan, Rhondda Valleys, Penygraig, Hendrecafn School Staff c1921
Front Row from left:
1 (unknown, but lived in Milbourne Street),
2 Miss Cassie (Davies ?),
3 Miss Annie Mary Wrentmore (5, Bishop Street),
4 Mrs Harries , Headmistress (22, Llanfair Road),
5 Miss Ethel Rees ( Vicarage Road),
6 (unknown),
7 (unknown).
Back row: 8 (unknown),
9 Miss Bevan (13,Llanfair Road),
10,11 & 12 (unknown).
Mrs Harries, the Headmistress, was wife of the Vicar of
Llanwonno. Miss Margaret Harries, her elder daughter, was the music mistress
in
Porth County School for Girls, and her younger daughter went to live
in Leeds, where her husband was Professor Weston (Agricultural Botany).
Miss Cassie (Davies ?) and Miss Annie Wrentmore had both obtained Teaching
Certificates in 1920 from Avery Hill College (now part of Greenwich University),
Eltham,
Kent. Cassie moved to Lewes, Sussex when she married Mr. Archie (?) Evans who
was an operatic singer.
Miss Annie Wrentmore was born in 1898 in Balaclava Terrace, a Penygraig Street
which I believe was demolished in the 1960s. She left Hendrecafn School
(and Bishop Street) in 1936, when she married Mr Frederick Lewis Lloyd of Cymmer,
Porth.
He worked at the Rhondda Council Finance Department in Pentre; they lived at
16, Llanfair Road, Penygraig, until he died in 1961. She continued living there
until her death in 1995. The photograph was kindly sent in by their son, David
Lloyd, Professor of Microbiology at Cardiff University.
David would be most interested if someone can make corrections or add missing
information on others in this photograph.
