Rhondda Valleys Information and History High Resolution Old Photos of Pontygwaith in the Rhondda Glamorgan, Rhondda Valleys, Pontygwaith Communal Kitchen Staff 1926 The photo above is of Pontygwaith Soup Kitchens in 1926 at the Communal Hall, known locally as the 'Shack'. The little boy in the very front is Albert Jones, and his father - Alfred Jones is second from the right in the back row (inner). Photo courtesy of Thelma Lloyd nee Jones (Born in Fenwick Street, now living in Yorkshire) - daughter of Albert Jones who is aged 85 in 2007. Albert went on to work in the Fernvale Brewery. The board holds the words immortalised in a song by David Alexander - "Not a minute on the day - Not a penny off the pay". Click on any photo to view in high resolution.
