Rhondda Valleys Information and History Rhondda Valleys - More photos and News about Ynyshir. In 1959 in the Ynyshir pictures (Cinema) a film was showing that proved to have an ironic title in view of the fact that the place would catch fire during the screening. The film was about Zorro, and was titled 'The Flaming Arrow'. The film had been released a couple of months earlier in December 1958.
In 2006 the Ynyshir Hall and Institute, later used as the cinema, was demolished to make way for a new medical hall. The new building is excellent, and I am sure it will be an asset to the community, but I can't help feeling that a part of my childhood was taken away when the old building was demolished. Thanks for the many special memories. This lovely wedding photograph was taken on Saturday 6th June 1948 at Penuel Chapel, Ynyshir it was the wedding of Rosina Elizabeth Mortimer and Donald Llewellyn Booth. Photo courtesy of their daughter Gaynor Alford - nee Booth. This photo was also courtesy of Gaynor Alford nee Booth, and is of the Ynyshir War Memorial on the occasion of adding a Falklands memorial tablet: Rhondda Valleys, Ynyshir, Unveiling of the Falklands Memorial. These photographs were sent in courtesy of Mr Colin Harvey of Ynyshir, and they are photographs of his family, and contemporary photos of Ynyshir. These two photos were sent in courtesy of Sarah Roberts, and are of two Ynyshir places that are now demolished. If you have any photos or postcards to share with us please scan them
