Bryn Gwyn Standing Stones on Anglesey.
Bryn Gwyn Standing Stones SH462669
From Brynsiencyn take the A4080 towards Newborough. On the left
hand side of the road you will come to a lay by with a CADW sign
for Castell Bryn Gwyn. I believe that if I had walked back a
little to the direction I came from then I would have come to
a stile that is slightly easier access to the stones. However,
what I did was to go to the Castell Bryn Gwyn site. From there
I crossed the ancient site, and looking to my left I saw a farm.
I crossed the field and over a farm gate. Turning into the farm
yard I came to a stile over a wall. I crossed it and keeping
to the right hand fence I soon arrived at the site of these spectacular
stones, which in fact form part of the fence.
Two of the tallest standing stones in Wales, and originally
reputed to be part of a circular stone henge, but this has never
been proven. The taller stands at over 13 feet (4m), and the
other at 10 feet (3m).
There are marks to the top of the tallest of the stones that
I have read on other websites line up with either the sun or
the stars. The fact appears to be that well into the last century
a cottage stood right up to this stone, and the marks are from
the cottage roof purlins.
