Castell Dolwyddelan Castle - and nearby farm.
Castell Dolwyddelan Castle is a Welsh built Castle, built in
the 13th century by Prince Llywelyn ap Iorwerth - Llywelyn the
Great.
The
square stone Keep is in very good condition, and the views from
the tower are sensational. This castle
was ideally situauted to control and monitor whoever approached
from whicher side of the Conwy Valley.
In 1283 during the conquest of North Wales, the castle was taken
by the army of King Edward I.
Many believe that the Prince of Gwynedd - Llywelyn ap Iorwerth
- was born here, but in fact he was born a short distance away
in Castell Tomen - probably the remains of which are a mound
that can be seen in a field opposite the Castle.
