Holyhead Rev. Thomas Ellis School War Memorial.

Holyhead, Rev. Thomas Ellis School Memorial to Captain John Fox-Russell VC MC

Holyhead, Reverend Thomas Ellis School Memorial to Captain John Fox-Russell V.C., M.C.

In the hall of the Rev. Thomas Ellis School is a framed photograph of Captain John Fox-Russell, who during World War One (WWI) was awarded the Military Cross, and then later the Victoria Cross - the highest possible award for outstanding courage. Within the framed photograph are his medal ribbons. The Victoria Cross was awarded posthumously, and he is buried at Palestine.

The headmistress tells me that close to Remembrance Day each year they hold a service of their own at the school.

Other items of interest that I photographed at the school are shown below in high resolution. The large slate referring to the National School and dated 1860 was saved from a skip in Valley in 2013!!
