War Memorials on Anglesey, in North Wales.

Llangefni County School War Memorial

Llangefni County School on Anglesey in North Wales has a splendid War World War One (WWI) Memorial with a soldier atop the memorial names monument.

There was strong sunlight when I went to photograph the war memorial, so on certain images I have enhanced them by changing them to HDR (High Dynamic Range) images, I hope you agree that the effect is conducive with the feelings that these monuments should portray.

From the statistics that I have uncovered whilst researching casualties from various communities on Anglesey (from Rolls of Honour as opposed to just casualties) - assuming that these are a typical example - then in the United Kingdom we would have lost in the region of one quarter of the males of an entire generation.

At the four bases of the memorial are inscribed the countries where our brave servicemen and women fell, these countries are Belgium, France, Italy, Mesopotamia (Iraq), The High Seas, Palestine (Israel), Salonica (Greece), Gallipoli (Turkey), Egypt and Africa. These casualties of war all once attended this school, and I believe the school erected a worthy memorial..
