The journey on the Snowdon Mountain Railway begins in the mountainside village of Llanberis in Gwynedd, North Wales. The trains are the original trains once used to mine slate in the Snowdonia mountains.

Depending on the weather snowdon Mountain Railway may not run at all, or may go only part of the way, or if the weather is suitable will go right to the top of the highest mountain in England or Wales - Snowdon. In Welsh it is named Yr Wyddfa - meaning the burial place. Snowdonia is quite abundant with carnedds (cairns) and many mountains like Carnedd Llewellyn are named after these burial places.

Of course it is wonderful to walk the mountains to the top, but for those of us who no longer can, Snowdon Mountain Railway will take us, and the views are breathtaking.
