Trearddur (Glan Traeth) Standing Stone
on Anglesey.
Trearddur Standing Stone(s) - Also known as Glan Traeth Standing
Stone SH 267789.
In my opinion one of the easiest to find of Anglesey's ancient
monuments, but pretty unspectacular as a standing stone. Nevertheless
as a place to visit it is very worthwhile as it stands just yards
from Trearddur Mill and is in a commanding position with nice
views, as are most standing stones. I believe that these stones
were located in order that wherever the hunter - gatherer people
were they could always see a stone, symbols of their beliefs.
From the Holyhead direction I passed through Trearddur Bay and
passed the Trearddur Bay Hotel on my left. Less than a half mile
further on I came to a left turning, which is directly opposite
the Capel Farm housing estate. The road from here is a single
track road, so I parked my car and walked the short distance
(about 300 metres) to the stone. From where I parked my car I
travelled down the left hand track until I come to a fork, one
way being for a farm, and the other for the mill.
On the way up the small hill track to the Mill I saw a ruined
building in the field to my left, and right next to it is a stone
that looks far more like an ancient standing stone than the actual
one:

Within yards of that ruin I came to the Trearddur Mill, which
has been tastefully converted to living accommodation:

To the left and directly opposite the mill, I saw the standing
stone I had come to find, and the fine views to the sea and the
mountains:
