Bryn yr Hen Pobl Burial Chamber

Bryn yr Hen Pobl Burial Chamber

Bryn yr Hen Pobl roughly translates as the Hill of the Old People. It is a chambered tomb set in a field situated on the private estate of Lord Anglesey, the Marquis of Anglesey. An entrance led to a large tomb where bodies were laid on each side of this long tomb. The entrance is still quite preserved, although it is obvious that several of the supporting stones have been inserted to keep the structure as safe as is possible. A large dead ash tree stands aloft the tomb as if it had died in sympathy with those in the tomb. A wooden fence that once encircled the entrance has now fallen down, and one feels this site would benefit from more involvement from CADW. A truly atmospheric site in a field that looks as though it houses many more structures, although they are probably much later. The elevated view from this hill of the Snowdonia range is beautiful. As I have said, it is on private land, and permission must be obtained from Lord Anglesey’s agents Jones Peckover on 01248 362524. E-mail authorisation via info@jonespeckover.co.uk (I received mine within hours of requesting it, once I had emailed an admonition of responsibility).
