Beaumaris War Memorials

Beaumaris war memorial stands in the churchyard of St Mary’s Church, a beautiful church contemporary with Beaumaris Castle, indeed I believe it was by the same architect.

Here is the list from the War Memorials and also casualties who perhaps should be on the memorial.
Two cases in point are the Burton brothers, their parents owned and frequently lived at Fryars in Beaumaris. Theirs is a very interesting tale. I realised from the basic details that their ages were very similar so I looked up their births on FreeBMD, and in fact, discovered that they are each one of triplets, the third being a sister – Mary Conway Burton. Further research revealed that they were born on a Yacht in Conwy in November 1894.
Tragically and bizarre that both brothers were Lieutenants and would be injured and come home to convalesce for a while, and after a short time return to duty – one at the beginning of 1915 the other in December 1915. Both brothers were later shot by snipers through the head, one in 1915 the other in 1916 in totally different regiments in different parts of France. The truth, as they say, is often stranger than fiction!
