Moelfre War Memorials

Anglesey, Moelfre War Memorial.

Moelfre is a picturesque fishing village on Anglesey – famous for its’ fine history of bravery associated with the lifeboat and her crews – with probably the most unusual War Memorial on the island. The inscription on the main stone reads: ‘Our street lighting was installed as a memorial to the men of this district who made the supreme sacrifice in the 1939-1945 war’.

Many of the men on Moelfre War Memorial are also on the Marianglas War Memorial.

Anglesey, Moelfre, Dic Evans Memorial Statue to a Lifeboat Hero in hdr. One of the few lifeboat crews to have been awarded two R.N.L.I. Gold Medals – their equivalent of the Victoria Cross. A testament to the bravery of the Men of Moelfre.

Names of the casualties with just a little more info are in the table below. The scant information on the Moelfre Memorial makes it nigh on impossible to trace a person with a Welsh surname.
