Ducks

A Male Mallard at the Holyhead Breakwater Park

There are many species of Duck on the Island of Anglesey, mainly located on the several lakes (but also to be seen on the sea near the coast) like Llyn (Lake) Alaw and Llyn Cefni, and also on the many nature reserves like Penrhos Nature Reserve and the Breakwater Quarry – both of which are located in Holyhead.

Another excellent place to bird watch is on the Malltraeth Estuary. One of the most colourful is the male mallard, and there are many others like the tufted duck. You will also regularly encounter more rare species like the Crested Grebe, a common sight at the Llyn Cefni.
