Llanfechell War Memorials
Llanfechell on Anglesey in North Wales. The War Memorial is outside of the walls of the beautiful Church of Saint Mechell.

The names on the War Memorial include those of three Thomas brothers from Brynddu. To lose a child during war must be devastating to parents, I really cannot imagine how it must have been for the parents that lost three of their children.

If you have any high resolution photos of anyone on this or any other war memorial, or simply a story to tell, I will show the photos and tell the story, as with the one below for Owen Owen of Bryn Hidl, Mynydd Mechell.

Gunner Owen Owen of Bryn Hidl, Mynydd Mechell

Owen Owen lived at Bryn Hidl in Mynydd Mechell with his parents, John Richard Owen and Margaret Owen. With them lived his sister and brothers. Like all of his brothers, Owen was strong shouldered, fit and healthy, having worked on the land.
When the second world war (WWII) broke out, Owen enlisted in the Royal Artillery, and was assigned to the 257 Coast Regiment. Serving with him was his friend from home, Tecwyn Jones.
Owen had served in several countries including Tunisia. It was whilst he was serving in Tunisia that Owen was killed on the 25th of September 1943, as the result of a railway accident, nothing else is known. Owen was 26 years of age. His friend Tecwyn happily survived the war.
Owen’s brother Harry Owen served in Buma, and after the war worked on the railway at Chester.
On Owen’s grave in Tunisia is engraved a message from the family that reads: ‘Our dear beloved son Owen, never forgotten by his parents, sister and brothers’ – ‘Until We Meet Again’.
