Nature in Anglesey

Nature on the Island of Anglesey – Ynys Mon

A beautifully coloured Peacock Butterfly

I do not profess to be an expert in the wonders of nature, nor do I claim to know more than most folk about the creatures and plants we share this world with that are constantly around us. Nature is the domain of someone far greater than anyone of us, and I just appreciate the wonder of life.

I love Anglesey, and I thoroughly enjoy photography. These pages are a result of those two things coming together. Whether the animals, insects and plants that I photograph are wild or not, on foot (or on a thousand feet) on wing, or on stem, I would just like to share with you some of the photographs that I have taken on my travels around Anglesey. Many of you might not be so fortunate as to live in the country, and others may just like to see colourful images of nature; whichever category you fit into you are most welcome.

Moths

I have an enormous collection of photographs of moths, but unfortunately, they were all taken whilst I lived in Bulgaria. I may, however, use some of those images if I know a particular moth is to be found on Anglesey, or purely out of interest as with

Ducks

There are many species of Duck on the Island of Anglesey, mainly located on the several lakes (but also to be seen on the sea near the coast) like Llyn (Lake) Alaw and Llyn Cefni, and also on the many nature reserves like Penrhos Nature Reserve and

The Common Buzzard

The Common Buzzard of the raptor family (birds of prey) are in abundance on the Isle of Anglesey and will be seen often, whether in the countryside or when driving along the roads. Normally they will be hovering above some unsuspecting prey, and often they are seen

The Blackbird

Blackbirds on the Isle of Anglesey are in abundance, as they are in most parts of the United Kingdom, and yet they are such beautiful birds we often dismiss them, choosing to look for the rarer more exotic of species.

The Speckled Wood Butterfly

The Speckled Wood butterfly is quite a common British butterfly, and it is possible to get some lovely photographs of them, not least because they often seem unafraid of a photographer getting too close to them. Click on the images to see them in high resolution.

The Red Admiral Butterfly

The Red Admiral butterfly is another of the most beautiful of British butterflies. The Red Admiral is abundant on Anglesey. I hope you enjoy the photographs below. Click on them to see a high-resolution image.

The Peacock Butterfly

The Peacock butterfly has to be one of the most beautiful of British butterflies. The markings on its wings were similar to those on a peacock’s feathers are the reason the name. I hope you enjoy the photographs below. Click on them to see a high-resolution image.

The Painted Lady Butterfly

The Painted Lady butterfly is a predominantly brown cum orange butterfly with beautiful markings on its wings. I hope you enjoy the photographs below. Click on them to see a high-resolution image.
